• Antiviral Activity: Amantadine works by interfering with the influenza A virus's ability to enter host cells and uncoat its genetic material. Specifically, it blocks the M2 protein ion channel of the influenza A virus, which is essential for the virus to release its genetic material into the host cell and initiate replication. By doing so, it inhibits the replication and spread of the influenza A virus within the body.
• Antiparkinsonian Effect: The exact mechanism of its action in treating Parkinson's disease is not fully understood. It is believed to work by increasing the release of dopamine in the brain and inhibiting its reuptake.
