1. Thrombopoietin Receptor Agonist: Eltrombopag acts as an agonist of the thrombopoietin receptor. Thrombopoietin is a hormone that plays a crucial role in the production and maturation of platelets in the bone marrow. By binding to the thrombopoietin receptor, eltrombopag activates intracellular signaling pathways that stimulate the proliferation and differentiation of megakaryocytes, which are the precursor cells of platelets. Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP): It is mainly used in the treatment of chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura in adults and children who have had an insufficient response to corticosteroids, immunoglobulins, or splenectomy.
