Urticaria, eczema, allergic and contact dermatitis, skin itching, rhinitis, migraine, bronchial asthma, etc. It can also be used for Cushing's disease and acromegaly.
Nasal Congestion Relief: Primarily used as a decongestant, xylometazoline HCl is applied topically to the nasal passages to provide rapid relief from nasal congestion caused by colds, allergies, or sinusitis.
Post-Surgical Care: It may also be used after nasal surgery to help reduce swelling and congestion, facilitating breathing and healing.
Temporary Symptom Management: As a short-term solution, xylometazoline HCl can alleviate symptoms that interfere with daily activities, such as difficulty sleeping or eating due to nasal obstruction.
Alpha-Adrenergic Agonist: Xylometazoline HCl functions as an alpha-adrenergic agonist, specifically targeting alpha-1 adrenergic receptors present in the nasal mucosa.
Vasoconstriction: By stimulating these receptors, it causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels) in the nasal passages. This reduces blood flow to the nasal tissues, decreasing swelling and congestion.
Mucus Secretion Reduction: Additionally, it may also have a modest effect on reducing mucus secretion, further contributing to the clearing of nasal passages and improved breathing.
