1. Mechanism of Action: Almotriptan is a selective 5-hydroxytryptamine1B/1D (5-HT1B/1D) receptor agonist. It works by binding to these receptors on the cranial blood vessels and nerve endings. This binding causes vasoconstriction of the dilated cranial arteries and arterioles that occur during a migraine attack. It also inhibits the release of vasoactive peptides and reduces the transmission of pain signals in the trigeminal nerve system, thereby alleviating the symptoms of migraines.
