Daptomycin is an antibiotic derived from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces roseosporus. It belongs to the class of cyclic lipopeptide antibiotics and is primarily used for the treatment of specific bacterial infections.

 

 

1. Gram-Positive Infections: Daptomycin is indicated for the treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSIs) caused by susceptible gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus (including methicillin-resistant strains, MRSA) and Streptococcus pyogenes.
2. Bloodstream Infections: It is also used for the treatment of bloodstream infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, including right-sided endocarditis when surgery is not an option.
3. Alternative Therapy: Daptomycin can serve as an alternative therapy when other antibiotics are not suitable or have failed, due to its unique mechanism of action and broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive organisms.
