Fenofibrate (Tricor) is a of the fibrate class. It is mainly used to reduce cholesterol levels in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease. Like other fibrates,it reduces both lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) levels,as well as increasing highdensity lipoprotein (HDL) levels and reducing triglycerides level.

 

1. Lipid-Lowering Therapy: Fenofibrate is primarily used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia, a condition characterized by elevated levels of lipids (fats) in the blood. It helps to reduce total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, while increasing high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C).
2. Prevention of Cardiovascular Events: By improving lipid profiles, fenofibrate can reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes in patients with dyslipidemia or at risk of cardiovascular disease.
