Buflomedil hydrochloride is a vasoactive drug with a variety of actions. It is an alpha-adrenoceptor antagonist and a weak calcium channel blocker. It inhibits platelet aggregation and improves erythrocyte deformability. However, its mechanism of action in peripheral vascular disease is not known. Buflomedil has generally been well tolerated by most patients in clinical trials. The most frequently reported adverse effects include flushing, headache, vertigo, gas-trointestinal discomfort, and dizziness. These rarely require drug withdrawal.
Cerebrovascular Disorders: Primarily used in the treatment of cerebrovascular disorders, particularly those involving reduced blood flow to the brain, such as chronic cerebral circulatory insufficiency.
Improving Brain Function: Aids in improving cognitive function and reducing symptoms associated with reduced cerebral blood flow, like dizziness, headaches, and fatigue.
Adjunct Therapy: Often prescribed as an adjunct to other therapies for managing the symptoms of cerebrovascular diseases and promoting overall brain health.
Vasodilatory Effect: Acts as a vasodilator, increasing blood flow to the brain by dilating blood vessels, thereby improving cerebral circulation and oxygenation.
Neuroprotective Properties: Possesses neuroprotective effects that help protect brain cells from damage caused by reduced blood flow or ischemia, potentially slowing down the progression of neurodegenerative processes.
Enhancing Microcirculation: Enhances microcirculation within the brain, improving the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to brain tissue, which can support cognitive function and reduce symptoms related to cerebral insufficiency.
