Bempedoic Acid is a novel, orally administered, non-statin, lipid-lowering agent that belongs to a class of drugs known as acyl-CoA thiolase inhibitors. It is specifically designed to target and reduce the production of cholesterol in the liver.

 

1. Adjunctive Therapy in Statin Intolerant Patients: Bempedoic acid is used as an adjunctive therapy to lower low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels in patients who are unable to tolerate statins due to muscle-related side effects or other reasons.
2. Combination Therapy with Statins: In patients who require additional LDL-C lowering beyond that provided by statins alone, bempedoic acid can be used in combination with statins to further reduce LDL-C levels.
3. Monotherapy in Specific Populations: Bempedoic acid can also be used as monotherapy in patients who do not meet statin eligibility criteria but require LDL-C lowering, such as those with statin allergies or contraindications.
