Function and Application
Angiotensin acetate, also known as (Val5)-Angiotensin II, is an angiotensin II analog that is an agonist AT1 angiotensin receptors. Angiotensin is an oligopeptide and is a hormone and a powerful dipsogen. It is derived from the precursor molecule angiotensinogen, a serum globulin produced in the liver. It plays an important role in the renin-angiotensin system.
Angiotensin II is a potent vasoconstrictor generated by the sequential action of renin and angiotensin-converting enzyme on angiotensinogen. The biological activities of angiotensin II include the regulation of blood pressure, salt and water balance, and vascular tonus. Additionally, angiotensin II stimulates various enzymes as NADPH oxidase.
