Description
Oxfendazole is a broad spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic approved for veterinary use. It is effective to protect livestock and poultry from most of the parasites such as roundworms, tapeworms, strongyles and pinworms. The drug is mainly applied in the form of pills, tables, drenches and bolus, etc. especially for horses, goats, cattle, sheep, etc. The drug functions on parasites by binding to tubulin, which is a structural protein of microtubules. In the parasites the blocking of microtubules interferes with the uptake of glucose, which ultimately empties the glycogen reserves. This blocks the whole energy management mechanism of the parasites and eventually leads to death.

Function and Application
Oxfendazole, the sulfoxide form of fenbendazole, is a broad spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic used against roundworms, strongyles and pinworms for sheep, cattle, goats, and swine. It is a white to grey powder; insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ,ether . Its chemical designation is [5-(phenylsulfinyl)-1H- benzimidazol-2-yl] carbamic acid methyl ester.

Oxfendazole is a new broad-spectrum anthelmintic drug, which is more than twice as effective as phenylthiobenzazole.
It is administered to various gastrointestinal nematode adults of sheep, cattle and pigs at a dose of 23.5-5mg/kg. The insect rate is 95-100%. The worm reduction rate for each stage of larvae was 91-98%. It is also effective against short-shelled aphids and nematodes, but it is less effective against pig whipworms. This product has low toxicity and good tolerance.
